About Me

I feel immensely grateful to get to dedicate my life’s work to fulfilling my passion helping adults, couples, and teens overcome obstacles that block them from a fulfilling, rewarding life experience. I enjoy being part of the positive impact that insightful and emotionally enriched relationships have on families and communities.

My long standing interest and curiosity in coming to know people’s strengths, their evolving inner voices and goals, and helping people live more fulfilling lives led me to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis in Psychology, a Master’s degree from the combined programs at Smith College School for Social Work in Northhampton, MA and the University of South Florida School for Social Work, and obtain my FL state license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (SW#7674).

For 12 years, I have have had the opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills to counseling teens, adults, and couples in a variety of settings. My training includes clinical experience at the Duke Medical Center High Risk OB/GYN and Hospice. Throughout my counseling career I have gravitated towards working with teens and adults at various places, including The Spring of Tampa Bay, The Centre for Women, The Hillsborough County School District, and, for the past 6 years, in my private practice in South Tampa. I have worked alongside physicians, nurses, dieticians, occupational therapists, school guidance counselors, school psychologists, and other professionals while working with individuals, couples, and families.

My Approach

I blend several approaches to meet each client’s unique needs and my personal style is warm, thoughtful, and interactive. Clients often come to me in much pain, feeling overwhelmed, confused, and stuck. In addition to their pain, clients can be critical of their feelings and their current ways of coping, which counteracts positive change. My compassion, curiosity, and non-judgmental stance in my work with clients often facilitates a process whereby clients internalize these qualities throughout the therapy process and, in turn, reflect those very qualities in relating to themselves over the course of therapy.

I utilize a psychodynamic and insight-oriented approach informed by cognitive behavioral principles. While the theoretical model used is unique to each client’s goals and brings value to the process of therapy, I believe ultimately the relationship between the client and therapist is the core factor for therapeutic success. I believe in everyone’s inherent ability to change, grow, and create the life he or she wants. Psychotherapy provides a unique opportunity to more fully realize your potential.

Therapy is a highly collaborative process in which we are working together towards your evolving goals. One of the most important components that I focus on in the beginning stage of therapy is to help guide you in identifying what changes you desire and to begin envisioning how you want your life to look at the end of our time together. In our work together, I hope to help decrease your distressing symptoms and also help guide you in examining long-standing patterns that are creating current challenges. I also value providing clients with encouraging feedback and practical skills, tools, and action-oriented steps for clients to integrate what they learn in session time into their every day life. I hope this site offers some glimpses into the benefits of psychotherapy and what you can begin to hope for in the process.
