Therapy Fees, Insurance, And Policies

Helpful information about therapy fees, out-of-network insurance, payment, and cancellation policies

Downtown Tampa

Session Fees

Fees for psychotherapy services are discussed before treatment begins so that expectations are clear from the start. A sliding scale may be available in certain situations.

Many of my clients often prefer to simply pay for their session out of pocket, choosing not to take the risk of having information shared with their insurance company. Although your information is confidential, it is required to provide the insurance company with some personal information in order to process claims and request additional services. Involving insurance can compromise consistency and longevity of therapy sessions, creating interruptions in the therapy process that detract from the therapeutic relationship and working towards therapy goals.

Payment

Payment via cash or check is due at the time of the session.

Cancellations

24 hour advanced notice is required for cancellations. The scheduling of an appointment reserves time specifically for you. If a scheduled appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice prior to the appointment time, the full session fee will be charged.

Insurance

I am primarily a fee for service therapist. However, services may be covered in part by your health insurance or employee benefits plan. Please check with your insurance provider for your individual benefits coverage and ask the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  • How do I get an authorization number?

As an out-of-network provider, I can provide receipts for clients to submit to their insurance company for reimbursement of therapy after client has paid session fee at the time of service.

Some individuals have a Health Care Flexible Account (HCFSA). This allows employees to set aside funds on a pre-tax basis to pay for eligible medical expenses. These funds can also be used to pay for counseling costs.
